Active Breathwork
Active Breathwork is a practice of consciously altering the breath in order to move energy in the body.
It offers us the opportunity to
observe our underlying patterns,
receive insights,
and release emotions and memories stored in our bodies.
The practice is beneficial to mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.
On a physiological level, it supports immune function, cognition and focus, improved physical performance, and more.
Breathwork can support you if…
you feel stuck in patterns or habits that you can’t seem to break out of
you struggle with anxiety or chronic stress
you’re seeking inspiration in your work or your creative practice
you’re interested in releasing trauma on a somatic level
you want to feel more present, alive, and confident in your body
you want to improve athletic performance and/or capacity for physical endurance
you’re seeking a deeper sense of spiritual connection in your life
NOTE: Active Breathwork is not recommended if you are pregnant or if you have asthma, epilepsy, a heart condition, or are actively experiencing a mental health crisis. If you have any questions or concerns about whether active breathwork is right for you, don’t hesitate to ask. If this practice is contraindicated for you, there are many other forms of breathwork we can practice together to support your mind, nervous system, and overall heath.
The art of breathing is as ancient as our oldest ancestors, and it has been harnessed by cultures around the world to support physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.
My own great-great-great grandmother was a breathwork teacher herself! She lived in current-day Lithuania and the United States from 1863-1939.
Here are some notes from her journal, dated 1918. I feel her with me as I continue teaching and practicing breathwork myself.
My great-great-great grandmother, Celine.
As a breathwork facilitator,
I bring a calm, steadfast, and loving presence to our work together. Emotional and physical safety are of utmost importance to me, and I will stay by your side from beginning to end in our sessions. I believe in the innate wisdom that lives in each of us, and I guide breathwork from the conviction that you are your own greatest teacher.
I am committed to my own healing work and spiritual journey, and I bring both my well-carved path of experience and my continual humility to this work. In my personal practice, active breathwork supports me to hold space for and heal my own trauma, release long-standing patterns of tension in my body, and feel more connected to myself.
It is an honor to share this practice with you!
